Who am I ?

We are here because we want to know a little more about ourselves.

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

Hey Y’all! Welcome to my blog. Thank You for taking the time to read, and scroll. Given that you are donating your time to my blog, I find that it will only be fair for me to explain how we both got here. If you have stumbled upon my blog, you were probably scavenging through the web for movie reviews, or something of that nature. I’m here to tell you that this is more than just a blog about movies. This is a blog about how I experience movies. I recognize that we are all different people, with different backgrounds and different interest. The versatility in who we are shapes how we process, digest and encounter. With that being said, I also recognize that we may have differing opinions, and that’s okay. Life isn’t about agreeing with one another, it’s about figuring out who we are through the discomfort that comes from disagreement. Please disagree with me. Tell me what you like. Tell me what you don’t like. That’s why we are here. Because we want to know a little more about ourselves.

Who am I? I could tell you who the world says I am. My family. My friends. My colleagues. But would you completely know, then? Okay, I’ll give you a hint. I like movies. I’m what people may call “a movie buff”. My free time is often dedicated to movies. I find myself in a constant being of intrigue, when it comes to this subject. A movie goes beyond the common presentation of sitting in a theatre with your overpriced popcorn and coke products. A film, wherever you may be watching it, is offering you a piece of hundreds of people’s lives. I’m not speaking of the physical labor that goes into the craft (which in and of itself is truly amazing) I’m talking about the story. Just think about how you got here. Our lineage extends hundreds of years. Our ancestors continued to come together, generation after generation until we all came to be. For a lot of us don’t even know how. There are generations of stories that have either been lost, forgotten or thrown away. But movies help. Movies tell stories that we didn’t know we were a part of, and the stories that show us the uglier sides of our truth. For me, movies showed me who I want to be. So although I don’t have an explicit answer on who I am, I’m sure we will get closer and closer with each post. Until then turn on a good movie, sit in the discomfort, wherever that may be.
