This blog is going to be a little different. Today I will be writing about a limited docu-series as opposed to a film. The series is a Netflix series titled The Innocence Files. The series follows the stories of multiple men who have been wrongfully convicted and imprisoned within the United States. Each episode is emotionally compelling, and places the viewer in the seat of the men whose lives were stolen.
The very compelling docu-series is attributed with The Innoncence Project. The Innocence Project is a highly publicized organization that has aided in the exoneration of hundreds of people. Many celebrities have endorsed this organization such as Matthew Broderick, Nia Long, and Helen Mirren.
Although I would love to go on and on about the great work of The Innocence Project, and the beautifully crafted docu-series The Innocence Files, I think it would be more fitting to discuss the content of the series. Many of the cases that were discussed occurred in the 1980’s which wasn’t that far from now. I believe this fact goes to say a lot about the society that we live in. Although today, many people can see the injustices that were described, the timeline of these events also goes to show how much change needs to occur within the criminal justice system. In this podcast below I will be interviewing my mother who was a young adult during the time of these wrongful convictions. My mother has also viewed The Innocence Files which aides in any the perspective she has.
Comment a docuseries that has reshaped your perspective!
